Gadjah 「ガジャ Gaja[1] is a Spirit Guardian of the Heart Kingdom.[2]

Appearance[]

Gadjah is a tall, muscular man. His spiky, black hair has a white patch above his forehead. He has a large scar running from his left cheek down his neck.

Gadjah wears a sleeveless, light purple robe with a deep v-cut neck and a navy center section on the front. The robe has slits for both legs. His wide brown belt has a series of gold medallions along it, and he carries his grimoire by sliding it under the belt. Under this, he wears a pair of white pants that are cropped at mid-calf. His dark-colored, knee-high boots leave the tops of his toes uncovered. He also wears several pieces of jewelry: a pair of teardrop-shaped earrings that each have three pieces dangling from the bottoms, a pair of large anklets over his boots, a pair of gold bracelets over navy arm bands that cover most of his forearms, and a wide gold necklace that extends up under his chin and down over some of his chest.

Personality[]

Gadjah is dedicated to his duty and the Heart Kingdom and is willing to act duplicitously in order to serve his country. He acts as a kind escort for the visiting Magic Knights, giving Mimosa compliments and offering them drinks,[2] but directs them into a trap for Asta and then blocks them from pursuing their captured comrade.[3]

Gadjah has also shown to be personally loyal and familiar with his Kingdom's Princess, Lolopechka. He serves and cares for her as a person as well as his monarch. When she is fawning over Charmy Pappitson and spending time laughing together with her new friends, Mimosa Vermillion and Noelle Silva, Gadjah smiles faintly, indicating that he is genuinely happy and delighted to see Lolopechka making friends and acting her proper age despite her duties to her kingdom.[4]

Biography[]

After overhearing Princess Lolopechka's disappointment in herself over not being able to learn attack magic, Gadjah vows to himself to become the strongest offensive mage in the Heart Kingdom so that he could take down any enemies for her.[5]

At some time, Gadjah battles Julius Novachrono, who is impressed by the Spirit Guardian's strength.[6]

Gadjah meets Kirsch and Mimosa Vermillion when they visit the Heart Kingdom as exchange students.[2]

A few years later, Gadjah battles Vanica Zogratis and Megicula and receives a large scar on the left side of his face in the process.[6][7]

Noelle, Finral and Mimosa fight Gadjah

Gadjah stops the others from pursuing Asta.

Gadjah serves as the escort for Asta, Mimosa, Noelle Silva, and Finral Roulacase when they enter the kingdom. He offers them drinks and briefly explains the kingdom's history and the princesses' magic.[8] After Asta is kidnapped, the other Magic Knights pursue him. Finral warps the girls and himself through the air, but Gadjah manages to catch up to them. Noelle blocks Gadjah from attacking Finral and then prepares to fight Gadjah, who accepts her challenge.[3] Gadjah fires a lightning bolt from his hand and commands it to follow Noelle when she tries to dodge. Before it can hit Noelle, Finral warps it away and Mimosa fires her Magic Cannon Flower, which misses Gadjah. He then creates a magic circle in the sky and summons a large storm cloud.[9] He unleashes a large lightning strike, but the three escape with Spatial Magic. Suddenly, a portal opens behind Gadjah, and Noelle hits him with a Sea Dragon's Roar.[10] Gadjah manages to deflect the spell with a defensive magic circle on his body. He senses their location and quickly flies over to them, catching them by surprise. Instead of attacking, Gadjah kneels and apologizes, admitting that it was to test their magical skills.[11]

Gadjah then escorts the three to the Princess's throne room. He is embarrassed when Lolopechka trips and tumbles over her dress.[12] During the meeting, Lolopechka and Julius Novachrono agree to have several Magic Knights train under the Spirit Guardians in preparation for the Spade Kingdom's invasion.[13]

Gadjah trains Luck

Gadjah instructs Luck on Mana Method.

Gadjah meets with Magna Swing and Luck Voltia but only trains Luck because Magna is unable to create the runes necessary for Mana Method. During their training, Gadjah explains to Luck how to create True Lightning Magic and that he took two years to master it himself.[14][15]

Six months later, Gadjah is standing near Lolopechka when she tells Asta about the Spade Kingdom using lower-class citizens to power their mobile fortresses. Neither is surprised that Asta flies off on his own, but they agree that Asta's improvements are impressive.[16] Once the group of Magic Knights completes its mission to liberate the town of Tolon, they return to the Heart Kingdom, and Luck, Leopold Vermillion, and Asta challenge Gadjah to a fight. Gadjah refuses, insisting that they rest.[17]

Later, Gadjah smiles while watching Lolopechka dote on Charmy Pappitson and bicker with Mimosa and Noelle. However, the happiness turns to alarm when the Spade Kingdom attacks and Megicula returns to the Heart Kingdom.[18] Gadjah is angered when he hears that Vanica's Dark Disciples have beaten the four other Spirit Guardians.[19]

Hischer explodes

Hischer's body swells before exploding.

Gadjah rushes out and quickly defeats Hischer Ongg. Before he can return to Lolopechka,[20] Hischer stands back up with his injuries healed due to the curse Vanica placed on him.[21] During the fight, Vanica detonates the devil power in Hischer. Gadjah watches in horror as the Disciple's body swells due to the building magic power before he becomes a massive explosion.[22] Gadjah survives the blast.

A few days later, Julius contacts Gadjah to inform him about the Clover Kingdom's plan to invade the Spade Kingdom. Gadjah pledges the Heart Kingdom's aid in the operation and also reports that the elves are helping build up the strength of the Kingdom and the Magic Knights there. After the call ends, Gadjah vows to rescue Lolopechka.[23]

Three days later, Gadjah and others travel to the Spade Kingdom's capital in order to help stop the Qliphoth Advent Ritual.[24] They use True Magic attacks to decimate the horde of low-ranking devils.[25]

Devil Lolopechka stabs Gadjah

Gadjah's hesitation allows Lolopechka to stab him.

Gadjah and Noelle enter the castle, and upon reaching Vanica's chamber, Gadjah grabs hold of Lolopechka who is under Vanica's control, while Noelle stops Vanica from attacking Charlotte.[26] Vanica forces Lolopechka to attack Gadjah.[27] After Noelle defeats Vanica, Megicula partially manifests itself from Vanica's body and alters Lolopechka's curse, turning her into a devil. The transformation catches Gadjah by surprise, and Lolopechka slashes his shoulder and side.[28] When Lolopechka attacks with Hydra of Darkneros, Gadjah fights past the heads but hesitates in striking her, so instead she plunges her hand through his abdomen.[29] Not wanting to leave his death on Lolopechka's hands, Gadjah temporarily paralyzes her and then sacrifice his lifeforce to cast Apocalypra Astrauza against Megicula. The spell disintegrates the devil's body but not its heart, and Gadjah's body is left charred and crumbling.[30] Megicula, however, survives and rapidly restores its own body, while praising Gadjah's display of power, as his body falls unconsciously to the floor.[31]

Inspired by Luck's arrival, Rill extends a stream from Twilight of Valhalla to Gadjah in order to revive and strengthen the Spirit Guardian. Gadjah and Luck then charge through Megicula's Dark Disciples, clearing a path for Noelle and destroying the devil's body again, but Megicula stops Noelle's sword from striking its heart.[32]

Gadjah confesses his love

Gadjah confesses his love for Lolopechka.

With Nozel Silva's help, Noelle reaches Megicula's heart and destroys it, freeing Lolopechka from her curses. Gadjah is happy to see the Princess is safe, and as the two approach each other, Rill's spell ends and Gadjah collapses from his injuries. Lolopechka tries to heal him but her Aquenelle Lore is not strong enough. Nacht arrives and brings Mimosa, who uses her Ultimate Magic, Flower Princess Utopia, to completely heal Gadjah, Rill, and Charlotte. Lolopechka tries to apologize for his injuries, but he brushes it aside as part of his job as a Spirit Guardian. He then confesses his love for her, which flabbergasts Lolopechka and the others.[33]

  • Ultimate Magic: After training under Dryad, Gadjah has learned the elves' magic technique for fully embodying his magic. Because he has less magic than the elves, he has to borrow natural mana in order to make up for his lack of magic power.[46]
