A Night With No Morning 「朝が来ない夜 Asa ga Konai Yoru」 is the 286th Page of Yūki Tabata's Black Clover.

Summary

When Nacht and Morgen Faust were children, Nacht was selfish and did whatever he wanted, while Morgen loved everyone and helped others no matter the risk to himself. When they turned 15 years old and received their grimoires, Nacht heard of a foreigner with weird magic, so he investigated and met Yami Sukehiro. The two became friends and committed petty crimes together. However, later that year, Yami joined the Grey Deer squad of the Magic Knights, where he met and befriended Morgen, another new recruit. Morgen noted the similarities between Nacht and Yami, but Nacht hated the comparison. Over the years, Morgen frequently encouraged Nacht to join the Magic Knights, but Nacht always refused.

After they turned 18 years old, Nacht's parents approached him and brought him to the secret chamber beneath the house, explaining that House Faust had a history of studying devils and that his Shadow Magic made him the heir. Nacht was overjoyed to find out that he was the one that fit in, instead of Morgen. While Morgen and Yami served as a duo of Light and Dark Knights, Nacht studied devils and showed great talent in binding them and mastering their powers. After contracting four devils, Nacht was given a bracelet that was linked to Lucifugus, one of the Highest-ranking Devils. Morgen, who had found out about his family's practice of Forbidden Magic and snuck into the chamber, tried to dissuade his brother from doing something so dangerous, but Nacht refused to listen and declared that he would surpass his limits. Upon summoning Lucifugus, however, Nacht realized his mistake as the devil was too powerful and killed the rest of his family. Nacht froze in terror, but Morgen leaped into the magic circle, grabbed the bracelet, and destroyed it, canceling the ritual and sending the devil back to the underworld.

As Morgen lay dying in Nacht's arms, he admitted that he did not report on his family to the Magic Knights because he had dreamed of he and Nacht protecting the Clover Kingdom together as Light and Shadow Knights. After Morgen died, Nacht realized how much he loved his brother and cried out in anguish, begging for the gods to bring him back. He then reprimanded himself for his past selfishness and decided to never forgive himself. Back in the present, as his Dark Prison Hunting Ground spell dissolves, Nacht tells Lilith and Nahamah that we will stop them before they can hurt any good people, and declares that he will surpass his limits.
